Increase Occupancy for Dementia Residents

See how some of our care home customers are increasing their occupancy by raising the bar for Dementia care.  We applaud their efforts and are pleased to play our part in providing signs and other visual products.  These are some of our favourite innovations from our customers:

 1. When we get a testimonial, we print it out and put it on the notice board in reception. Visitors feel reassured by the kind compliments from other family members.
 2. We put up a staff board, which lets people see the photos and names of any staff in the home when they come to visit.  That way they can put a face to the name. It’s important for families to know their loved one is being cared for by people who have been with us for years- we aren’t a home that has a revolving door of staff, we are a real team.
Staff boards were mentioned by 30% of our customers as contributing to increased occupancy!
3. Our hairdresser is a God send to our residents.  They love her weekly visits, and she makes them feel so special!
 4. The “allotment” has been a huge hit.  Although it’s just a few raised beds, the older residents remember growing their own veg for the war. It’s quite touching to see them so content doing something that feels familiar.
 5. Since installing our door vinyls we have had a little write up in the local press and welcomed 2 new residents.  They have given the hallway quite a dramatic new look and feel.
 6. We print out “newspapers” for our residents lounge. They are just A4 sheets with some old news stories but they get read a lot and can be useful conversation starters for visitors.
 7. “Safety and comfort” are the two words we use whenever we are thinking about ways to improve care for our residents, and they are two things we think are most important when people are looking for a home.  We have a flyer that lists all of the efforts we make to ensuring both of these conditions are met, such as directional signs, heated floors, see-through wardrobe fronts and drawer labels, door alarms and personalised signs for each resident’s room.

All in all, we have been really impressed by the efforts of our customers to improve their level of care, and we know from experience that care homes see improved occupancy rates when they go above and beyond the normal standards.
